The treasure trove of the Bothnian Sea

The Satakunta maritime region is a treasure trove of the Bothnian Sea. Satakunta’s rugged and low-lying coastline has subtle features and is filled with culturally historic important milieu.

The coast has rich traditions of maritime travel and of living in a maritime region. Although coastal fishing still exists, the once booming ship and boatbuilding industry has taken on a new form with the advent of the modern shipyard industry. This is what makes the Galleon Ihana shipbuilding project for Luvia such an excellent tribute to the work of past generations. Visitors can watch the vessel take form, all the way to its completion in 2011, on the Laitakari shore.

Summer boat traffic and coastal public cruise services also take visitors without boats
out to sea. Interesting sights along the Bothnian Sea's coast the include Rauma’s Kylmäpihlaja lighthouse island, the fortifications on Kuuskajaskari Island and the natural beauty of Reksaari Island. Eurajoki is the site of the historic Kaunissaari Island, Luvia the Säppi lighthouse island and the seaside Laitakari recreation area.

Merikarvia is part of southern Finland's most popular whitewater fishing areas, and the nearby sea is home to the unique natural beauty of the Oura archipelago.

In Pori, the Yyteri beach is a sight unto itself. In addition to these, Enskeri and Outoori islands, the Ahlainen shore village and idyllic Reposaari are charming settings. Running between the villages, the Saaristotie Road offers visitors gorgeous sea views and outstanding spots for fishing.
