The legacy of Ahlström

The ironworks area in the heart of Noormarkku is the Ahlström family legacy to Satakunta. The ironworks, idyllic landscapes and Villa Mairea, a masterpiece designed by Alvar Aalto, attract hundreds of visitors annually to Noormarkku and the Kauttua ironworks area in Eura.

A. Ahlström Oy has a long history. Its roots extend to the year 1851, when Antti Ahlström started his business operations. In 2001, the old A. Ahlström Osakeyhtiö was divided into three separate companies that specialise in the forest industry, property management and guest services. At the end of 2012, guest services were combined with nature related services to form a service business.

Despite its history that covers portions of three centuries, the company has retained its domicile in Noormarkku. Today, its service business in Satakunta includes, among others, conferences, accommodation as well as restaurant and nature-related services. 
- We want to offer experiences and individual service, says Riitta Kilo, the service business manager at A. Ahlström Osakeyhtiö.

Hospitality leaves a lasting impression

The Ahlström family saw great potential in Satakunta, and this vision continues to guide the company's business development operations. 
- Our faith in the growth and development of this kind of business activities guides our daily operations. 
The company fosters its customer relationships with a long-term perspective. Operations are planned around experiences perceived by customers.

The company values traditions, which is reflected in the careful maintenance of its ironworks areas that carry great cultural significance. 
- The buildings are renovated respecting their original style and traditions, says Riitta, further mentioning that guided tours at the ironworks are popular among visitors. 
- Villa Mairea is popular as well. It is something of a pilgrimage site for architects.

Over the years, the company has become known particularly for its hospitality. The pleasant home-like setting and customer-focused approach leave a lasting impression on visitors. Local residents have also experienced the impact of far-reaching operations and, according to Riitta, are proud of the company.
